Contemporary Entryway Furniture: Coat Rack Ideas

The first thing that guests notice when they walk into your home is the entryway. This small area serves as the main entrance to your home, and is also the place where your kids dump their school bags, you leave behind paper works, and everyone takes off their jackets and footwear. To keep all these things (or at least most of them) organized, one piece of contemporary entryway furniture you should consider adding is a coat rack. Using a coat rack in your entryway  can give your space a cleaner and uncluttered look. Here are some ideas you might want to consider.

Coat Rack Idea #1: Go Big and Antique

A big antique rack gives you enough room for storage as well as extra seating. Look for larger pieces that come with bench seating and storage underneath like the Contemporary Merlot Hall Tree with Storage Bench by Powell. Use hidden storage for out of season jackets and boots. The top of the rack contains metal hooks where you can hang hats, jackets, and coats. The piece also comes with a long shelf at the very top for you to display your collections and other decorative pieces. Use the extra space to decorate for the holidays. During the Christmas season, display a Christmas village on top or some of your favorite Christmas decorations from past years. Change out the decorations when the seasons change.

Coat Rack Idea #2: Take It to the Walls

Coat racks do not have to be a stationary object in the middle of your entryway. If you cannot get a wood piece like the Cato Entryway Shelf by Uttermost, use racks hung on the wall. you can use antlers of different sizes and display those as a coat and a hat rack. If you cannot find antlers, use metal racks of different sizes and shapes. Use one big rack at the center of the display, and hang it close to the ceiling, to display a single piece. Add two or more hooks, putting one hook on either side of the larger one, but slightly lower on the wall. Keep adding more hooks, making every set a little lower, to create a stair step effect.

Coat Rack Idea #3: Keep It Simple

A simple coat rack is sometimes the best choice, especially when you have a small entryway or if your home does not really have a designated entryway. There are some homes that directly open into a living room or hallway leading to the house, which does not really give you a lot of space. Put a single coat rack next to the door but in a classic style that matches the rest of your house, such as mahogany wood or curved stainless steel like the 67 Inch Steel Balls on Pegs Coat Hat Rack Stand by Adesso. Add a small area rug and matching umbrella stand nearby. These pieces will work with your style but are easily change should you decide to redecorate later.
